PREPARATION FOR USE
Perform before (B) operator/crew Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) before
continuing with the following procedures.
WARNING
All persons not involved in coupling operation must stand clear of towing vehicle and
trailer to prevent possible injury.
1.
Review and perform towing vehicle operating procedures to prepare towing vehicle for
coupling.
2.
Check that Iunette (1) on trailer is same height as pintle (2) on towing vehicle. To adjust,
turn landing gear handcrank clockwise to raise and counterclockwise to lower.
NOTE
Use an assistant to direct you while backing up.
3.
Aline towing vehicle with trailer.
4. Slowly back towing vehicle until Iunette (1) and pintle (2) engage.
Install pintle Iockpin (3).

6 . Attach safety chains (4) from trailer to towing vehicle by crossing chains under Iunette (1)
to opposite side eyebolts.
7. Connect trailer intervehicular cable (5) to towing vehicle and trailer.
8. Connect trailer service and emergency airhose gladhands (6 and 7) to towing vehicle
gladhands (8 and 9).
9. Check gladhands (6 and 7), intervehicular cable connection (10), and safety chains (4) for
security and routing to provide slack during operation involving tight turns.
10. Turn on towing vehicle air supply to pressurize trailer brake system.
