Summer music in the Alps

Summer indeed is a time for music in the Alps near St. Moritz. The musical program for the summer includes more than 200 concerts, following closely after "Snow and Symphony" held during March and April, including a series of concerts featuring renowned soloists and conductors.

The Laudinella Hotel, largest three star property in the Engadine Valley, plays a leading role during the music season.

Known as the "hotel with culture," the Laudinella has numerous cultural programs and is a meeting place for musical groups from throughout Switzerland and from other countries.

Regularly scheduled are such pleasures as ensemble concerts, piano evenings and orchestral presentations.The Laudinella front desk has a full listing of these events.

"Our program continues throughout the year, providing a series of cultural treats for the community," says Manager Felix Schlatter, who carries on the program begun when the Laudinella was opened 40 years ago.

A feature of the August program at the Laudinella is instruction in the alpenhorn for up to six guests in a class.

Urs Brütsch, the Laudinella Hotel musical director is among the leading alpen horn blowers, a group that includes St. Moritz Tourism Director Hanspeter Danuser.

Danuser has demonstrated the distinctive instrument during many appearances before U.S. ski and tourism gatherings.

One wing of the Laudinella includes a spacious reading room and fine concert hall in which diverse entertainment programs are presented. They range from classical orchestra concerts to ballroom dancing competitions.

The main lounge with its windowed walls provides guests an opportunity to relax and savor the lovely landscaped grounds. Stately firs tower more than four stories into St. Moritz's bright blue skies.
