TM   9-2320-289-34 6-5. FRONT  AND  REAR  AXLE  DIFFERENTIAL  REPLACEMENT  (M1009). This  task  covers: a.   Removal c.    Installation b.   Cleaning   and   Inspection INITIAL  SETUP: Equipment   Condition Materials/Parts l Front   or   rear   axle   shafts   removed. One   differential   cover   gasket (See  paragraph  6-4  or  6-14) Shim    sets Steering   tie-rod   removed   (if   replacing   front l Prussian   blue   dye axle   differential).   (See   TM   9-2320-289-20) (Item  24,  Appendix  B) Gear   lubricating   oil (Item  44,  Appendix  B) Tools/Test   Equipment Personnel  Required l Bearing   preload   gage   and   strap,   J-22779 l MOS  63W  (2) l Dial   indicator l Micrometer Manual  References l Torque   wrench l TM   9-214 General  Safety  Instructions l Dry   cleaning   solvent   is   flammable   and   must   not   be   used   near   open   flame.   Use   only   in   a well-ventilated   area. a.    REMOVAL 1. If  working  on  front  axle  differential, place   a   suitable   container   under housing.   Remove   10   bolts   (1)   and cover   (2).   Allow   all   lubricating   oil   to drain.
