M578 RECOVERY VEHICLE– TOP VIEW, ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION DECKS REMOVED
1 POWER PLANT. Power plant consists of a
diesel engine, Allison transmission, and in-
put transfer assembly to provide power to
vehicle.
2 ENGINE. Engine is a Detroit Diesel GMC
series 8V71T turbocharged 8-cylinder,

V-type 2-cycle diesel with fuel injectors
and overhead exhaust valves.
RADIATOR. Two radiators are provided to
cool engine. A surge tank is provided to
catch excess coolant and gases.
