b. Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services. The preventive
maintenance checks and services charts (pars. 24 and 25) outline
functions to be performed at specific intervals. These checks and
services are to maintain the equipment in a serviceable condition;
that is, in good general (physical) condition and in good operating
condition. To assist operators in maintaining serviceability, the charts
indicate what to check, how to check, and what the normal conditions
are; the references column lists the paragraphs that contain supple-
mentary information. If the defect cannot be remedied by the oper-
ator, higher echelon maintenance is required. Records and reports of
these checks and services must be made in accordance with the require-
ments set forth in TM 38750.
23. Operator's Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services Periods
a. Daily. Preventive maintenance checks and services of the equip-
ment are required on a daily basis while the equipment is in use. If the
equipment is maintained in a standby (ready for immediate operation)
condition, the daily checks and services should be performed once each
week. Paragraph 24 specifies the checks and services that must be per-
formed daily and under the following special conditions:
(1) When the equipment is initially placed in service.
(2) When the equipment or any of its major components is
removed from service for any reason.
b. Weekly. Perform the maintenance functions indicated in the
weekly preventive maintenance checks and services chart (par. 25)
once each week. A week is defined as approximately 7 calendar days of
8-hour-per-day operation. If the equipment is operated for more than
8 hours a day, the weekly maintenance interval should be adjusted.
Adjustment of the weekly maintenance interval should be made to
compensate for any unusual operating conditions. Equipment main-
tained in a standby condition must have weekly maintenance per-
formed on it. Equipment in limited storage (requires service before
operation ) does not require weekly maintenance.
