TM 9-2320-280-20-1 Change 1 1-51 1-30. SUSPENSION SYSTEM OPERATION The suspension system is identical for all models covered in this manual. It is an independent coil spring type system. Major components of the suspension system are: B UPPER CONTROL ARM – Connects geared hub to frame rail. A BALL JOINTS – Connects geared hub to control arms, and allows change of angle between geared hub and control arms during suspension movement. D GEARED HUB – Serves as a mounting point for wheel and tire assembly and provides 1.92:1 gear reduction to increase torque to wheel and tire assembly. C STABILIZER BAR (FRONT ONLY) – Prevents vehicle sway when cornering. E LOWER CONTROL ARM – Connects geared hub to frame rail. F SHOCK ABSORBER –  Dampens suspension movement and limits amount of suspension travel. G COIL SPRING –  Supports weight of vehicle and allows suspension travel to vary depending on terrain and vehicle loading.
