TM   55-2835-208-23P Definition Code MF MD AO AF AD XA -   Item   to   be   manufactured   or   fabricated at the direct support maintenance level. -   Item   to   be   manufactured   or   fabricated at   the   depot   maintenance   level. -   Item   to   be   assembled   at   organizational level. -   Item   to   be   assembled   at   direct   support maintenance    level. -   Item   to   be   assembled   at   depot   Mainten- ance   level. -     Item     is     not     procured     or     stocked     be- cause   the   requirements   for   the   item ill   result   in   the   replacement   of   the next   higher   assembly. XB -   Item   is   not   procured   or   stocked.   If not   available   through   salvage   requis- i t i o n . XC -   Installation   drawing,   diagram,   instruc- tion sheet, f i e ld service drawing, t h a t     is identified   by   manufacturer’s part   number. XD -   A   support item   that   is   not stocked. When   required item   will   be   procured through   normal   supply   channels. NOTE: Cannibalization   or   salvage   may   be   used   as   a items  coded  above,  except  those  coded  XA  and restricted   by   AR   700-42. source   of   supply aircraft   support for   any items   as (2)   Maintenance   Code. Maintenance   codes   are   assigned   to   indicate   the levels  of  maintenance  authorized  to  USE  and  REPAIR  support  items. The   mainten- ance   codes   are   entered   in   the   third   or   fourth   positions   of   the   Uniform   SMR   Code format   as   follows: (a)   The   maintenance   code   entered   in   the   third   position   will   indi- cate   the   lowest   maintenance   level   authorized   to   remove,   replace,   and   use   the   sup- port   item.   The   maintenance   code   entered   in   the   third   position   will   indicate   one of   the   following   levels   of   maintenance. Code Application/Explanation O -   Support i t e m    is removed, replaced, used   at   the   organizational   level. F - Support i t e m     is removed, replaced, used   at   the   direct   support   level. 3
