Geometry SHAPES AND FIGURES OF PLANE GEOMETRY Example: Calculate the area and perimeter of a parallelogram with base (b) = 4´, height (h) = 3´, = 5´ and = 4´.   Be sure to include units in your answer. Solution: bh = 2+ 2b = (4)(3) = 2(5) + 2(4) = 12 square feet = 10 + 8 = 18 feet rectangle is a parallelogram with four right angles, as shown in Figure 11. Figure 11    Rectangle The area of a rectangle is calculated using the following formula: = (length)     (width) = lw (3-5) The perimeter of a rectangle is calculated using the following formula: = 2(length) + 2(width) = 2+ 2w (3-6) The area of a rectangle is always expressed in square units, and the perimeter of a rectangle is always expressed in the original units.
