TM 10-3930-664-24 4-10.  CRANKSHAFT MAIN BEARING REPLACEMENT This task covers: Removal, Cleaning, Inspection, and Installation INITIAL SETUP: Tools and Test Equipment: Equipment Condition: General Mechanic.  Tool Kit (1, App.  E) Crankshaft removed (para.  4-9) Nylon Brush (38, App.  E) Caliper Set, Outside (13, App.  E) Materials / Parts: Lubricate 105 (39, App.  C) A.  REMOVAL 1. Remove   bearing   halves   (1,   2)   from   cylinder block and main bearing caps (3). 2. Determine  size  of  bearings  removed  and  obtain same size replacements (as required) 3. Remove  piston  cooling  nozzles  from  journals  in cylinder block only if replacement is required. B.  CLEANING 1. Clean crankshaft journals using a nylon brush. 2. Clean  crankshaft,  main  bearing  caps,  and  main bearings in accordance with paragraph 1-24. C.  INSPECTION 1. Conduct general inspection of crankshaft components in accordance with paragraph 1-24. 2. Inspect         crankshaft         journals      for         deep scratches or indications of overheating. 4-18
