Metric   Conversions In metric conversion, the unit you most often use is the meter. Terms in the metric system are all in units of 10. Multiples of these are obtained by prefixing the Greek  words:  deca(10),  hecto(100),  and  kilo(1,000).  Divisions  are  made  by prefixing the Latin words: deci(l/10), centi(l/100), and mili(l/1,000).
