Section III. TECHNICAL PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION

TM 11-7440-232-12/NAVELEX 0967-LP-275-5010
1-13. SAFETY, CARE, AND HANDLING
· CAUTION: Proper grounding is essential to satisfactory operation of the digital data modem.
· CAUTION: Test points are accessible at the front of the modules and should be used to avoid needless
disassembly of the equipment.
· WARNING: When troubleshooting or making repairs in this equipment, be extremely careful. Voltages
as high as 135 volts ac are present in the ac power circuit. Use insulated test probes when making the
required voltage measurements. Always disconnect the ac power plug at shelf connector J1 or TB1 or
otherwise interrupt the ac supply to the equipment before touching any of the internal parts.
· WARNING: Ground electronic parts having high voltages thereon, such as capacitors, to remove stored
residual voltage.
· CAUTION: This equipment is transistorized; observe all cautions to prevent transistor damage. Do not
make continuity or resistance checks other than those specified in the tests. Damage to the transistors
and microelectronics devices, which can impair the performance of the equipment, may result if
improper battery voltages and polarities are applied.
· WARNING: Don't take chances. Avoid personal injury. MD-701B/UY is heavy--it weighs 50 pounds. Use
two men to lift.
