REFERENCE INFORMATION (CONT’D)

TM   ll-5895-1412-12&P REFERENCE INFORMATION (CONT’D) I COSITE PLAN -   Provides frequency separation from 0.5 to 5 MHz so that nets in close  proximity  can  communicate  simultaneously  without  mutual  interference. CUE  FREQUENCY   - A frequency used to bring a user into a net. The frequency is in the range of 30.000 MHz to 87.975 MHZ and is divisible by .025 MHz. DATA TRANSFER DEVICE (DTD) - A small hand-held computer which will be used for the storage and transfer of BGU-generated items; callsigns, frequency assignments,   SINCGARS  TRANSEC  variables,  suffixes  and  expanders,  signs  and countersigns,  and  pyrotechnics,   smoke signals, call words, and COMSEC keys. EXPANDER   - Used with a call sign suffix to identify a sub-element of the position,  mission  or  function  identified  by  the  suffix. FREQUENCY   - The number of reoccurrences of a periodic phenomenon in a unit of time. In specifying electrical frequency, the unit of time is the second, the frequency is expressed in hertz (Hz) (meaning cycles per second). Radio frequencies  are  normally  expressed  in  kilohertz  (KHz)  at  and  below  999 kilohertz,  and  in  megahertz  (MHz)  above  this  frequency. FREQUENCY  ASSIGNMENT  -  A  designated  radio  frequency  for  use  by  a  specific radio net during a certain period of time. FREQUENCY  RESTRICTION  -  partially  restricts  the  use  of  an  available  frequency. Designated within the BGU by the letters A-P. FREQUENCY  SHARING   - Allows different nets to be assigned the same frequency for each time period. HERTZ - A unit of frequency equivalent to one cycle per second. HF  -  High-frequency  (2.000-30.000  megahertz). HOPSET - A set of frequencies that a frequency-hopping radio uses when in the frequency-hopping  mode. ITEM NUMBER IDENTIFIERS - an aid that provides a rapi station  identity. LF  -  Low-frequency  (0.0001-  1.9999  megahertz). d  and  general  means  of The MANUAL  FREQUENCY   - A frequency used for filling a radio remotely. frequency is in the range of 30.000 MHz to 87.975 MHZ and is divisible by .025 MHz  . MEGAHERTZ  (MHz)   - A unit of frequency equal to 1,000,000 hertz (cycles per second). NATIONAL  SECURITY  AGENCY  (NSA)  -  The  agency,  functioning  under  the  Department of  Defense,  which  monitors  the  entire  United  States  SIGINT  (Signals Intelligence) collection and processing effort. NSA is responsible for research  and  development  efforts  and  initial  production  procurement  of  BECS. 1-11
