(3) Recoverability code.

TM  9-4910-663-24P b. Source, Maintenance,   and Recoverability (SMR) Codes. (1) Source code. Source codes indicate the manner of acquiring support items for maintenance, repair, or overhaul of end items. Source codes are entered in the first and second positions of the Uniform SMR Code format as follows: Code P A . . . P B . . . X B . . . X D . . . (2) Definition Item procured and stocked for anticipated or known usage. Item procured and stocked for insurance purposes because essentiality dictates that a minimum quantity be available in the supply system. Item is not procured or stocked. If not available through salvage,    requisition. A support item that is not stocked. When  required,  item will be procured through normal supply channels. NOTE Cannibalization or salvage may be used as a source of supply for any items coded above except those coded XA and aircraft support items as restricted by AR 700-42. Maintenance code. Maintenance codes are assigned to in- dicate the levels of maintenance authorized to USE and REPAIR support items. The maintenance codes are entered in the third and fourth positions of the Uniform SMR Code format as follows: (a) The maintenance code entered in the third position will indicate the lowest maintenance level authorized to remove, re- place, and use the support item. The maintenance code entered in the third position will indicate one of the following levels of maintenance  : Code Application/explanation c . . .  .    Crew  or  operator  maintenance  performed  within  organizational maintenance. o . . .  .    Support item is removed, replaced, used at the organiza- tional  level. F  .  .  .  .   Support item is removed, replaced, used at the direct support  level. H  .  .  .  .   Support item is removed, replaced, used at the  general support  level. 2
