WARNING SUMMARY (cont.)

TM 9-2510-247-13&P
WARNING
HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL
When servicing this equipment, performing maintenance, or disposing of materials such as engine coolant,
transmission fluid, lubricants, battery acids or batteries, and CARC paint, consult your Unit/Local Hazardous
Waste Disposal Center or safety office for local regulatory guidance. If further information is needed, please
contact the Army Environmental Hotline at 1-800-872-3845. Failure to comply may result in injury or death to
personnel.
WARNING
BATTERIES
Wear safety glasses or goggles when checking batteries. Always check electrolyte level with engine stopped.
Do not smoke or use exposed flame when checking battery; explosive gases are present and severe injury or
death to personnel can result.
Battery acid (electrolyte) is extremely harmful. Always wear safety goggles and rubber gloves, and do not smoke
when performing maintenance on batteries. Injury will result if acid contacts skin or eyes. Wear rubber apron
to prevent clothing being damaged. Failure to comply may result in injury or death to personnel.
Remove all jewelry such as rings, ID tags, bracelets, etc. If jewelry contacts battery terminal, a direct short
may result in instant heating of tools, damage to equipment, and injury or death to personnel.
Battery box is not a step. Stepping on battery box can cause it to swivel, causing injury or death to personnel.
WARNING
CARC PAINT
CARC paint contains isocyanate (HDI) which is highly irritating to skin and respiratory system. High concentrations
of HDI can produce symptoms of itching and reddening of skin, a burning sensation in throat and nose and
watering of the eyes. In extreme concentrations, HDI can cause cough, shortness of breath, pain during respiration,
increased sputum production, and chest tightness. The following precautions must be taken whenever using
CARC paint:
ALWAYS use air line respirators when using CARC paint unless air sampling
shows exposure to be below standards. Use chemical cartridge respirator
if air sampling is below standards.
