FLIGHT CONTROLS – INSPECTION (MAIN ROTOR) – continued

TM 1-1520-238-23 11-48 Change 7 11.5. FLIGHT CONTROLS – INSPECTION (MAIN ROTOR) – continued j.   Mixer bellcrank. Gouges, dents, and scratches not to exceed 0.030 INCH in depth and 1.0 INCH in length. Replace bearings if loose in housing. Use depth gage. k.   Bellcranks. Gouges and dents not to exceed 0.015 INCH in depth. Must be blended out. Use depth gage. l.   Swashplate inspection – ball bearing condition. NOTE A new swashplate bearing is 100 percent grease filled. It is normal for the bearing to purge exces- sive grease, at a decreasing rate, for up to 25 flight hours. (1)   Inspect for grease leakage between rotating and nonrotating portions of main rotor swashplate by wiping finger along inner circumference of swashplate for a distance of at least 3 inches in three different locations around swashplate. A grease film on these parts is normal. If this is observed, inspection is complete. If an abnormal accumulation of grease is deposited on finger, after 25 flight hours, replace swashplate. (2)   Inspect for freeplay and smoothness of operation. (a)   Disconnect pitch links (para 11.14), load bearing scissors (para 11.16), and secondary scissors (para 11.18) at lower ends. NOTE Rotate swashplate in direction of rotation. (b)   Inspect swashplate for smoothness of rotation. Inspect for axial play between rotating and nonrotating swashplate. No axial play allowed. (c)   Visually inspect for condition of parts between rotating and nonrotating swashplate to include seal material, seal retainer plate, lower bearing retaining ring, and bearing cage material. If any abnormali- ties are found, replace swashplate. (3)   Check main rotor swashplate clevis and pitch change link rod end for general condition, wear, or chafing. (a)   Blend and finish (TM 1-1500-344-23) if wear or chafing in swashplate clevis area does not exceed limits (para 11.5). (b)   Replace swashplate (para 11.6 and para 11.7) if wear of chafing damage in swashplate clevis area exceeds limits (para 11.5). (c)   Blend and finish (TM 1-1500-344-23) if damage to pitch change link rod ends does not exceed limits (para 11.5). (d)   Replace rod end (para 11.15) if damage to pitch change link rod end exceeds limits (para 11.5). GO TO NEXT PAGE
