BUCS Flight – Transfer of Controls CONDITION CREWMEMBER IN BUCS TRANSFER TO ACTION JAM PILOT CPG The CPG must decouple the SPAD and press the BUCS select trigger switch JAM CPG PILOT The pilot must decouple the SPAD SEVERANCE AFT OF PILOT SEAT PILOT CPG No action required SEVERANCE AFT OF PILOT SEAT CPG PILOT No action required SEVERANCE BETWEEN CREWSTATIONS (NOT IN BUCS) PILOT REMAINS IN NORMAL MECHANICAL CONTROL CPG The CPG must achieve sufficient mistrack and press the BUCS select trig- ger switch f.   BUCS–Flight Procedural Steps (1)   Crewmember Control of BUCS (a)   If the pilot decouples his SPAD first: 1   The pilot will have control. 2   The CPG can obtain control if he de- couples his SPAD and presses the CPG BUCS select trig- ger switch. 3   Control cannot be transferred back to the pilot. (b)   If the GPG decouples his SPAD first: 1   The CPG will have control. 2   The pilot can obtain control by decoup- ling the applicable pilot SPAD. (c)   If  a  severance  occurs  between  crewsta- tions: 1   The pilot has mechanical control. 2   The CPG can obtain control by press- ing the CPG BUCS select trigger switch and creating a sufficient mistrack. 3   Control cannot be transferred back to the pilot. (d)   If  a  severance  occurs  aft  of  the  crewsta- tions: 1   Either pilot obtains control as soon as a mistrack is sensed. 2   There is a one (1) second easy–on to achieve 100% control. (e)   If the CPG BUCS select trigger is pressed: 1   BUCS is engaged under CPG control. 2   Control cannot be transferred back to the pilot. (2)   Jam and Severance BUCS Engagements (a)   Jam engagement. 1   If it is determined that a BUCS jam en- gagement is warranted, make an aggressive application of force in the jammed axis. 2   If more than one axis is jammed, de- couple the axis that has the highest priority first. 3   After decoupling the SPAD, center the control. 4   Fly  the  aircraft.  Some  control  will  be available  immediately  and  full  control  will  be  phased  in over a three (3) second period.
