Level A.  Each life raft shall be packaged in accordance with
* 5. 1.1
method III of MIL-P-116, cushioned with material that conforms to
PPP-C-795 to prevent movement within the box, and placed in a snug-fitting
box that conforms to grade W6c of PPP-B-6.36.

5.1.2
Level C.  Life rafts shall be packaged to afford adequate protection
against deterioration and physical damage during shipment from the supply
source to the first receiving activity.  The supplier may use his standard
commercial practice provided it meets these requirements.

5.2
Packing.
Packing shall be level A, B, or C as specified (see 6.2).

5.2.1
Level A.  Life rafts that have been packaged as specified shall be
packed in a shipping container that conforms to class weather-resistant of
PPP-B-636.  As far as practical, the shipping containers shall be of uniform
shape and size, shall be of minimum cube and tare consistent with the pro-
tection required, and shall contain identical quantities.  The gross weight
of each shipping container shall not exceed the limitations of the shipping
container specification.  The closure of the shipping container shall be in
accordance with the appendix of PPP-B-636.
* 5.2.2
Level B.  Life rafts that have been packaged as spepcified shall be
packed in a shipping container that conforms to class domestic of PPP-B-636.
As far as practical, the shipping containers shall be of uniform shape and
size, shall be of minimum cube and tare consistent with the protection
required, and shall contain identical quantities.  The gross weight of each
shipping container shall not exceed the limitations of the shipping container
specification.  The closureC of the shipping container shall be in accordance
with the appendix of PPP-B-636.
*  5.2.3
Level C.  Life rafts that have been packaged as specified shall be
packed in a shipping container that will be acceptable to the carrier and in
a manner that will ensure safe transportation, at the lowest rates, to the
point of delivery.  The shipping containers shall conform to the rules and
regulations applicable to the mode of transporation.

5.3  Marking.  In addition to any other markings required by the order or
contract, interior containers and shipping containers shall be marked in
accordance with MIL-STD-129.

6.1
Intended use.  The life rafts colored by this specification are intended
for use as emergency and life support equipment for personnel in aircraft
forced down at sea.
